Compost Bin Part 2

I bought and put together a LIFETIME 65-gal compost tumbler. I like the "medium" size that can handle most of the yard waste and all of the scraps from the kitchen (NOT meat or bones!). In addition I like the cube shape which makes it easier to turn. You'll definately appeciate a model like this once you've added a lot of waste to be composted. In comparison to my old compost bins I like the closed design. While my old compost bins did work, water and rain tended to run off the top and it made it hard to keep the right moisture level in the bin. The enclosed structure of the new compost bin is working much better in this regard. Also, the old compost bin was too small. With an "open" compost bin the pile of waste needs to be big enough (4 x 6ft at a minimum) to create enough heat to break down everything. The new bin addresses this issue by being enclosed and by being made of a black plastic which absorbs heat.
